How Trane uses its national Curri account to streamline operations and scale in Virginia

When you’re a B2B and B2C distributor, you can bet that business is always booming. For Daniel Carvajal, Warehouse Manager at the Midlothian, Virginia branch of Trane, that’s exactly what he’s used to. But organizing driver routes has never been as seamless as he’d like.
Trane manufactures AC units and offers products for all things air conditioning and heating from across the United States. Daniel’s location is the third largest in the country, spanning 84,000 square feet, and serves as a hub for two-thirds of Virginia.
Daniel needed a solution to keep his dedicated routes routine and optimized, while also providing a reliable delivery option for those who need materials in a hurry. Heating and cooling emergencies never run on a predictable schedule, but fortunately, Curri does.
When a route planning strategy can’t keep up with a booming business
Daniel started at Trane in 2023 and has quickly climbed the ranks to become a warehouse manager. He first heard of Curri when a store manager needed an item from a previous warehouse; it was sent and delivered quickly via Curri's hotshot delivery. From there, they saw it as a solution to a larger problem.
Daniel’s previous route-planning strategy was more of a manual, pen-and-paper approach. Stakeholders had no visibility of what was going out, and drivers often ultimately forged their own path as they saw fit, bypassing carefully planned routes. There was inefficiency and misalignment from end to end.
“We used to have a pen and paper method for route planning, and we’d give that plan to the drivers, and they would be the ones to decide where they go first. It wasn’t as organized as we had liked, and we needed a plan to fix that.”
How Curri came in to save the day
After digging deeper, Daniel discovered Trane had a national account with Curri, meaning Daniel’s team could implement Curri full-time for their routes. When we asked him what his favorite part was, Daniel was all about the app's interface. Account managers can track estimated delivery times, and live tracking updates let the team know when to book a secondary load.
“Your app system at Curri is really great. My account managers can see estimated arrivals, we can track trucks, and we can make a strategy on the fly. Nothing beats that app of yours.”
Trane started running Curri Dedicated Routes using Curri Route Planner in 2023, and recently transitioned all six of its long-distance service trucks at Daniel’s warehouse to Curri. They plan to add a seventh truck at this warehouse in the peak summer season. Daniel is currently responsible for Curri's dedicated routes via these trucks, but also oversees hotshots, which are booked as often as two to three days a week. He appreciates that it’s an easy-to-use system with the flexibility to support all the fleet and route types he needs.
Elevating efficiency with Curri’s route planner
Daniel confirmed that Curri’s route planner and hotshot service have dramatically improved operations. His Trane location uses Curri for dedicated routes every weekday, and, combined with hotshots, means 26-foot box trucks are constantly coming and going from the warehouse.
“I’m responsible for booking Curri, and we primarily use hotshots and rush deliveries. We also use Curri for dedicated routes via six trucks, and 7 in the summer. We use the Curri route planner as well, and it’s a huge help.”
To keep things organized, the route planner is a game-changer. Bookers can use a drag-and-drop functionality to add stops from a queue to a driver’s route, or can simply use the AI-powered auto-assign to build out complex routes automatically. Some of Daniel’s clients are VIPs and need to be prioritized first; once those customers are seen to, the rest is a piece of cake.
“Curri has indeed made our operations more efficient. It also allows us to continue to make a routing plan better and better every time we use it.”
Team collaboration made easier than ever
“The drivers are great, and I love that I have one point of contact to help with our operations. Any time we’ve had an issue, it’s been easily fixed through that contact.”
Daniel manages the warehouse, but it’s his administrative staff that actually handles and manages route creation. They have to combine residential and supply department materials and plan from there.
When it comes time to execute, the experience of working with the Curri team has been second to none. Drivers from past courier companies have been sub-par and unprofessional, often loading and misplacing items, something that’s never been an issue for Curri.
Jade, the go-to transportation dispatcher on Curri’s side, is also always ready for Daniel’s team to resolve any issues and field any questions. For Daniel, the Curri team feels like an easy extension of their own.
“We’d also say we’re able to give better customer service thanks to Curri, easily. We use Curri every single day, whether it’s a dedicated route or a hotshot 2 or 3 times per week. And we can always trust they’ll be professional.”
City and state lines? No longer a problem
Curri users, like Daniel, have access to a nationwide fleet of drivers, so long-distance deliveries never need to be second-guessed. Daniel shared that once, a hotshot driver from Curri drove several hours late into the night to retrieve their boss's computer from Lynchburg, VA, to deliver it back to his house before midnight, saving the day before a meeting-heavy schedule.
