When your business's motto is “customer service first,” choosing delivery logistics software that truly meets your values can be daunting. For Tyler Boorn, Transportation Manager at Industrial Metal Supply (IMS), many conventional couriers just weren’t stepping up.

IMS sells a wide range of metals to various sectors, including construction and aerospace. Whether he’s shipping out steel, aluminum, copper, sheets, tubes, or lead, he often has to get orders out the door and delivered the same day. Many courier drivers would show up late, or, worse, not at all, and would fail to provide visibility into delivery status or completion. But that changed when a rep from Curri swung by Tyler’s branch.

For IMS, finding the perfect courier partner felt impossible

The IMS team has an internal fleet of about 16 drivers, but in many cases, customers require manual unloading or use of tools and equipment (like forklifts) that the internal team isn’t equipped or authorized to handle. In these cases, or when their internal team is simply stretched too thin, Tyler needs a third-party courier to supplement the delivery gaps.

“The service from Curri was immediately much better. Much more prompt. It was a seamless way to schedule deliveries. Plus, the pricing was perfect for our needs.”

They started using Curri after a Curri rep, who previously worked for an unsatisfactory courier service, came in to promise better service. Tyler’s team quickly saw the rep was making good on his promise when he tried Curri and discovered how seamless and well-priced the booking experience was. From there, the partnership only grew.

How Curri always fits supply chain teams like a glove

“We also have our own fleet: 16 trucks and drivers. We use our own team as much as we can, but oftentimes, customers can’t meet our delivery requirements. That’s where Curri comes in. For cases where forklifts or other unloading specifications are needed, especially.”

Tyler is the leading Curri booker, handling roughly 95% of the supplementary deliveries. The team starts very early, around 5:30 am, to ensure their internal fleet rolls out without a hitch first. Then he can cover any gaps with Curri, mostly with same-day hotshot delivery. The majority of the time, he books Curri drivers to complete deliveries before noon, so his customers can unload and use the materials that same day. Talk about service.

“Usually, we book rush hotshots. We book in the morning, and need it to get to its destination before end of day. And Curri’s reliable every time.”

In cases where customers have special loading or equipment requirements, Tyler has never had an issue with a Curri driver. They’re reliable, skilled, and communicate effectively. Drivers sometimes reach out with questions, but there’s never been a complaint on Tyler’s team’s end.

Features that make all the difference

Yes, Curri is professional and reliable, but the software features and offerings are also a game-changer for Tyler’s team. They particularly appreciate Curri’s live tracking. They share the tracking link with sales reps and clients so all stakeholders have the visibility they need and can confirm delivery drop-offs in real time. The proof of delivery is also valuable for verifying when the delivery is made and to which location, for future customer inquiries.

“We definitely use live tracking a lot. We send the information to our sales reps so they have visibility, and the proof of delivery gives us the peace of mind of knowing it got to where it’s going.”

The IMS team, like any Curri user, can also access a nationwide fleet of drivers, meaning if they need to make a long-distance delivery, the Curri team won’t hesitate. The various vehicle options also mean Tyler can optimize the vehicles he’s booking. It’s better for the budget, and better for the planet.

From Tyler’s branch to beyond

For Tyler, Curri has saved the day multiple times by handling deliveries that IMS would have previously denied, whether due to bad timing or distance. And word has travelled fast, so more IMS branches have adopted Curri to supplement their internal teams.

Now, seven to eight IMS branches use Curri’s services to book deliveries of all types, with quick turnarounds. IMS teams can book same-day deliveries and trust that Curri will be there, or book deliveries for hundreds of miles away.

“Most of our other branches now also use Curri for the reliability. We’ve never had any issues. For us, it always comes down to the customer service, the great pricing, and the fleet and delivery options. It’s always been a good connection for us, and I’ll continue to recommend you.

How Curri impacts the broader business

Tyler says that if a delivery isn’t made by 5:00 pm, the customer can’t use the products that day, defeating their “customer service first” model and the promise of next-day delivery. But by being able to make good on their promises every time, Tyler’s team can retain clients, maintain their reputation, and scale.

“Our business motto is ‘customer service first’, and the ability to schedule things as a rush and know that they’re going to get here and get it done. That’s why we stick with Curri. With other companies, we’ve had issues of drivers not showing up or coming late. But Curri has the best network and fleet availability. We know we’re getting someone, getting the right vehicle, and getting the job done.”

When we asked why Tyler’s team chose to stay with Curri over trying another courier, it came down to the values alignment and helping them grow the business. It’s excellent customer service, reliability, vehicle and driver availability, and a seamless booking process.
